My Citi Bus Services
Cape Town City launched the MyCiti Bus services in May 2011. The MyCiti Bus Service offers routes in addition to the regular bus service routes offered traditionally in the Cape Town Metropol. The MyCiti Bus Service is a new initiative, offering a cheap, clean and efficient services along all major routes from the suburbs to the city as well as to and from the Cape Town International Airport. This new cost effective shuttle service linking the Cape Town International Airport and the City is becoming increasingly popular due to the efficiency of the service an economically priced tickets.
The My Citi Bus Routes link the Tableview area with the City Bowl with many feeder routes from Tableview surrounds linking to the main bus route to the city. This route begins and/or ends at the Civic Centre, which is also where the Airport Shuttle goes from which is very convenient if you live in the Tableview area! This route is very popular as historically, Otto Du Plessis which links Tableview to the CBD has one of the heaviest flows of traffic in peak times and can take up to 90 minutes to drive 20kms!
Another popular MyCiti Bus route which is being used is the V&A Waterfront to Gardens route. Have a look at the MyCiti Bus Route map on the right for drop off zones and links to alternative routes and forms of transportation.
Taxi Services
Generally speaking, taxi's in Cape Town are reliable and reasonably priced. Currently (2011), you should be paying no more than R10 per km for metered taxi's, which are the only taxi's you should use. Beware of unlicensed taxi's which are normally easy to distinguish between metered taxi's as the vehicles are older and they seldomly have lights on their roofs saying "TAXI".
Cape Town Hop in Hop off Bus
The Cape Town City Sightseeing Bus is a must do tourist activity. There are 2 routes to choose from with many stops along the way where you can 'hop on' or 'hop off' at your leisure. You are able to pre-purchase your tickets online or as you 'hop on'.
Choose the BLUE ROUTE which takes you around the Peninsula, with stops at the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) and The Mount Nelson Hotel over to the beautiful Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens (a must see!). The route then follows the coast to Hout Bay, Camps Bay, Bantry Bay and Sea Point and finally ending at back at the V&A Waterfront. There are 13 stops in total along this route.
Choose the RED ROUTE for a comprehensive tour of the city and many of it's historical attractions. Again starting at the V&A Waterfront with a stop at the CTICC, then heading into the city, making stops at St George's Cathedral, Iziko South African Museum, the District 6 Museum, the Cape Town Castle and many more attractions. The route then takes a turn townards the coast, stopping at Table Mountain (another Cape Town must do!) and heading over Kloof Nek to the famous Camps Bay beach. The route then follows the coast, stopping in Sea Point before finishing at the V&A Waterfront. There are 17 stops in total.
